Summary of the project
The expansion to a six-lane federal highway is intended to alleviate the often dense traffic flow on both the B1 section and the subordinate regional road network, thereby reducing traffic jams. The expansion of the A40 federal highway resulting from the project will further connect the cities of the Ruhr area more effectively.
Unique project highlights
The 13 structures along the route will be partially replaced, partially renovated, or adapted to current conditions. For the most part, these are bridge structures, such as the bridge over the Emschertalstraße. However, a subterranean tunnel has also been adjusted as part of the project. The noise protection measures which are planned along the expansion are intended to keep noise and exhaust emissions away from residents. Some of these noise barriers will already be installed during the route expansion to protect residents from construction noise.
