Innovative construction process for the renovation of historic buildings

Short
project overview
Basel's main post office, one of the oldest buildings in the city dating back to 1376, is being comprehensively modernized and prepared for the future. With an investment of 30 million francs, a sustainable mixed-use project is being created that preserves the listed substance and at the same time sets new standards for urban commercial buildings.
The project comprises a total gross area of 11,000 m², including 1,500 m² for catering and retail space and 5,000 m² for flexible office and service spaces.
A complex construction project in a demanding inner-city location
With 30 participating trades and a demanding inner-city location, the renovation project of the Basel Central Post Office was successfully completed.
By using the LCMD software, all trades could be digitally coordinated, which ensured smooth cooperation. Precise time slot planning and construction site logistics optimized the flow of materials even under the tight conditions of downtown Basel.
Sustainability also played a central role: energy-efficient technology and the reuse of materials were efficiently integrated into the construction process. lcmd as a central communication hub enabled all project participants to access current plans, time frames and progress reports at any time. In this way, decisions could be made more quickly and resources could be used optimally.
The project impressively demonstrates how complex renovation projects can be implemented not only more efficiently but also more sustainably through digital control — a clear added value for all stakeholders involved and visitors to downtown Basel.
