A pioneering research facility, planned with lcmd
Project summary
The new international accelerator center FAIR, Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research, one of the largest research projects in the world, is being built at GSI. Researchers from all over the world will gain new insights into the structure of matter and the development of the universe in outstanding experiments at FAIR.
FAIR is one of the largest research projects in the world. On a total area of around 150,000 m², 25 structures are being built, including a 1,100 meter long and 40 meter wide underground accelerator ring tunnel and other unique building structures.
Special features of the project:
Accelerator ring tunnel (particle accelerator)
- 17 meters deep below the ground
- 1100 meters circumference and 40m width
- 2 Mio. m3 of earth will be moved
- 600,000 m3 of concrete will be used
- 65,000 tons of steel will be used
- 1580 Employees and over 3000 researchers from 50 different countries
What Markus Schwerdtfeger particularly appreciates about lcmd in the FAIR project:
- Clear presentation and structuring of individual processes and the overall overview
- Quick implementation in internal processes and user-friendliness
- Effective complexity management
- Excellent conflict detection and resolution

The clarity provided by lcmd is very helpful for us. An example: We now transfer the structuring of the buildings to each of the 25 buildings. With analog pegboards, we don't even need to imagine this in the control system.
