Project overview
The construction of a new UC Davis Health 48X Complex hospital building in Sacramento, USA, began in November 2022 and is scheduled for completion in June 2025.
The facility was designed by SmithGroup and built by DPR Construction. The new surgery center is one of the most technically advanced outpatient surgery centers in the USA. After the planned opening in 2025, the new medical center will offer a comprehensive preliminary program.
The facility will cover the following areas:
- 4 floors
- 268.000 sq. ft. / 24.898 qm
- 14 state-of-the-art operating theaters
- 59 pre- and post-operative recovery rooms
- 14 individual recovery rooms for 24-hour observation
- 96 clinical examination rooms
- 19 specialized clinical treatment rooms
This comprehensive equipment aims to ensure optimal patient care and at the same time offer excellent opportunities for medical training.
The building will also be equipped with:
- Public areas for visitors and patients
- Clinical support facilities
- Operating rooms, including:
- Sterilization department
- Pharmacy
- Imaging department
- Physical therapy rooms

Challengers
Before the introduction of lcmd, we used a large P6 schedule and several Excel schedules for weekly and daily plans. Managing these manually took a lot of time and often led to errors. Coordination between site managers and trades was also time-consuming and confusing. To solve these problems, we introduced lcmd.
Introduction of lcmd
After intensive discussions with the Customer Success Team, the project managers and the scheduler, the current master schedule was transferred to lcmd by our Customer Success Manager (CSM). A 2.5-day workshop in Sacramento helped us to use the software effectively:
- Day 1: Training for schedulers and site managers
- Day 2: Training for trade partners
- Day 3: Half-day workshop for open questions
After the introduction of lcmd, regular meetings ensured that all questions were clarified. Our CSM took part in weekly meetings between site managers and trades to ensure the efficient use of lcmd. Customer feedback was prioritized and integrated into product development.
Added value through lcmd
Thanks to lcmd, we were able to merge the many Excel schedules into a single, consolidated schedule. This brought several decisive advantages:
- Time saving: The manual effort of copying information between different plans was completely eliminated. This allowed us to make better use of our time and concentrate on more important tasks.
- Improved overview: lcmd provides a clear and concise overview of all planned activities. We can now see at a glance which tasks are pending and what priority they have.
- Timeliness of data: Deadlines can now be updated to the day with the actual status on the construction site. Everyone involved can always see the current status of the schedule, which significantly improves planning reliability.
- Efficient communication: lcmd has made communication between site managers and trades much more efficient. Changes in the construction process are recorded immediately and passed on to everyone, which reduces misunderstandings and improves collaboration.
- Better coordination: The standardized platform enables us to better coordinate all trades. Everyone knows exactly what needs to be done and when, minimizing delays.
- Faster decision-making: With lcmd, we have all the relevant information at our fingertips at all times. This makes decision-making much easier and faster.
Thanks to lcmd, we have not only optimized the way we work, but also significantly increased efficiency and productivity on the construction site in Sacramento. The software has proven to be an indispensable tool for successfully completing this major construction project on time.
